During her time with Sydney contenders Bughouse and Stella One Eleven,
Genevieve Maynard has stood off to the side, shielding her eyes from the
spotlight. This makes no sense once you soak up the quality of the songs
on her first solo LP. A tasty mixed-grill of styles, Ghost Notes offers
up soaring power ballads (Trouble), funky pop (Jackie in the
Morning), understated acoustic noodles (Aurora Borealis) and
gutsy rockers. This is pop music for grown-ups, with way too many musical
smarts for the Top 40. And if that's not enough, in a move that's worthy
of Prince, Maynard wrote, played, produced, engineered and mixed the album. |
